A HUMBLE CATACLYSM

Webster defines cataclysm as: “a momentous and violent event marked by overwhelming upheaval and demolition; broadly: an event that brings great changes.”

This world is no stranger to cataclysmic events. The eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD proved to be cataclysmic in that both Pompeii and Herculaneum were totally destroyed. The ruins are still being excavated.

Prior to Vesuvius the world experienced a cataclysm of another sort. This was to be a humble cataclysm. It would occur in Bethlehem which was only about five miles from Jerusalem. A small town so graced by the Nativity of Jesus Christ it has become the most celebrated birthplace in all of history.

The Messiah was born in a borrowed stable and wrapped in rags. While it was a humble beginning it was an event that changed this world forever. I pray you experience the wonder and joy this season offers. It will not be found in the 200 billion dollars we Americans will spend on gifts this year. It will only be found in the heart as we humble ourselves and receive a very special grace.

My wife and I along with the girls are 5000 miles form our family. While we can not be with you guys again this year to celebrate Christmas we love you more than you know and miss you lots.
